Patient safety and clinical governance
Clinical accountability at every step of the pathway.
Patient safety is not a feature of the Vitelo model. It is the foundation on which the model is built. Every clinical decision is made by a qualified, registered clinician. Every pathway is governed by a clinical governance framework designed to protect patients and support clinicians.
Our clinical governance principles
Vitelo is designed to operate within established clinical governance frameworks. The following principles govern every aspect of the clinical pathway.
01
Clinician accountability
Every clinical decision in the Vitelo pathway is made by a qualified, registered medical practitioner. Clinical responsibility is never delegated to a technology system. The clinician who makes a clinical decision is accountable for that decision.
02
AI oversight and transparency
Where AI tools are used in the Vitelo platform, their role is explicitly defined, documented, and disclosed to patients and clinicians. AI supports clinicians. It does not replace clinical judgement. Every AI output is reviewed by a qualified clinician before any clinical action is taken.
03
Informed patient consent
Patients are informed about the nature of the Vitelo consultation model before they consent to participate. This includes the involvement of a remote specialist, the use of AI-assisted tools where applicable, and the intended scope of the service.
04
Clinical data governance
Clinical data generated in the Vitelo pathway is managed in accordance with applicable data protection legislation and clinical data governance standards. Patient data is not used to train AI models without explicit consent.
05
Incident reporting and learning
Vitelo operates a clinical incident reporting framework. Clinical incidents and near-misses are reported, investigated, and used to improve the safety and quality of the service. Learning from incidents is shared across the clinical team.
06
Defined scope of service
Vitelo services are designed for defined clinical contexts. The scope of each service is documented and communicated to patients and referrers. Vitelo is not an emergency service. Patients requiring urgent or emergency care are directed to appropriate emergency services.
Standards and frameworks
Governance and assurance
Vitelo is committed to operating within recognised clinical governance frameworks. The following standards and frameworks inform the design and operation of the Vitelo platform.
UK regulatory alignment
Vitelo is designed in alignment with UK clinical governance standards, including those set by the Care Quality Commission and NHS England, as applicable to independent healthcare providers.
AI governance framework
AI tools in the Vitelo platform are governed by an internal AI governance framework informed by the NHS AI Lab's guidance on AI in health and care, and the MHRA's framework for AI as a medical device.
Data protection
Clinical data is managed in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. AI Medical City Limited is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.
Clinical indemnity
All clinicians operating within the Vitelo platform are required to hold appropriate clinical indemnity cover. Vitelo maintains organisational indemnity arrangements appropriate to the scope of the service.
Vitelo is not an emergency service. If you or someone in your care requires urgent or emergency medical attention, contact your local emergency services immediately.
Clinical governance enquiries
If you are a regulator, commissioner, or clinical partner with questions about Vitelo's clinical governance framework, we welcome your enquiry.
